I feel like movies about Black love are rarely produced nowadays, when’s the last time you’ve seen a good romantic Black film? Growing up with shows like "My Wife and Kids", "One on One" and movies like "Brown Sugar" I was constantly exposed to the kind of relationships I wanted to one-day have and watching a family on TV that felt like it closely resembled my own was a great feeling as a child. Out of all of these American love stories "Love & Basketball" was a classic! I've watched it so many times that I can recall scenes with crazy detail. Sanna Lathan was my absolute girl crush for years - I loved the down to earth, pure of heart characters she often played. I miss the feeling of being able to relate, that’s what made these shows so loveable and come on, you know we’re funnier!
It seems I'm not the only one with "Love & Basketball" 'relationship goals' in mind as Lil Durk & Dej Loaf used the film as insp for their "My Beyoncé" video. Until Hollywood decides to bring back timeless Black love stories, we'll just have to enjoy videos like this. Watch it below.
